Why search is hard to decentralize

Search fundamentally needs a comprehensive index to be useful -- Google's value comes largely from having crawled and indexed most of the web in one place. Decentralized search projects (Presearch uses a hybrid model with distributed nodes and its own token incentive; some IPFS-adjacent tools index content-addressed data specifically) have to solve indexing without one party controlling the whole index, which is a genuinely unsolved problem at Google-scale -- most decentralized search efforts today cover a narrower slice (a specific content type, or federated with a centralized index underneath) rather than a full open-web replacement.
