Decentralized Sync Tools
Multi-device or multi-peer data sync without a central sync server.
Mechanism overlap only: volume replicas converge by comparing 256-bucket Merkle roots and repairing differences from peers (anti-entropy). There is no file-sync feature for users.
How peer sync differs from cloud sync
Dropbox-style sync routes every change through a central server, which then pushes it to your other devices. Peer-to-peer sync tools (Syncthing is the best-known open-source example) instead have your own devices talk directly to each other -- no cloud intermediary sees your files at all, sync happens over your local network when devices are on the same LAN, or over the internet via relay/NAT traversal when they're not, and there's no third party that could be subpoenaed for your data or that could suffer a breach exposing it.
