How NFT metadata actually works
An NFT's on-chain record is deliberately minimal -- typically just a token ID and a URI pointing somewhere else. The actual name, image, description, and attributes live in a separate JSON metadata file that URI points to, following a standard shape (ERC-721/1155's metadata JSON schema on Ethereum, Metaplex's token-metadata standard on Solana). That JSON file, and the image it references, are usually stored off-chain -- on IPFS for censorship-resistance (a CID baked into the NFT is much harder to rug than a URL on a company's server that can go offline), sometimes on Arweave for permanence.
